Consultation recommences on Victoria’s State Disability Plan
18/03/2021
State Disability Plan
After pausing consultation in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Victorian Government has recommenced the consultation process for the State Disability Plan (2021-2025).
Feedback is sought from the disability sector on six key topics:
- Improving how we describe disability and disability inclusion
- Finding better ways to include people with disability in making the next plan
- Strengthening the state disability plan outcomes framework
- Introducing overarching approaches to strengthen government commitments
- Strengthening the NDIS and mainstream interface
- Strengthening disability inclusion under the Disability Act (2006)
Formal consultation closes on Sunday, 4 April and it is anticipated that the State Disability Plan will be released to the public on 3 December 2021. Submissions to the Department can be via videos, photos, audio files and/or written documents.
NDS will be providing a submission and encourages members to contribute by emailing submit enquiry/feedback by Friday, 26 March.
State Plans are important in establishing the framework which articulates the government’s specific commitments to inclusion for people with disability. The next Plan will be a catalyst for new opportunities for people with disability and drive positive change in a COVID-normal environment.
A Supplementary Consultation Paper for the State Disability Plan has been published on what has changed since the last consultation.
Online Forums
The Department is hosting a series of online forums in March and April to capture the ideas and experiences of service providers and people with disability. Each forum will discuss the impact of COVID-19, including emergency responses and preparedness as well as rights, health, wellbeing and community isolation.
