Determining appropriate levels of support for children on the autism spectrum has generated substantial debate since the NDIS began. Building on the review of interventions for autism undertaken by the Autism CRC and released last year, the NDIA is now inviting comments on the Interventions for children on the autism spectrum consultation paper, which outlines the guidance to be included in policies, procedures and operational guidelines.

The paper describes 7 principles to inform NDIS reasonable and necessary decisions related to early interventions for children on the autism spectrum and 7 standards for how therapy and supports for children on the autism spectrum should be applied.
