A new report by the Commonwealth Ombudsman details the long delays many participants experience when seeking a review of their NDIS supports. As of February, the NDIA had 8,100 reviews to undertake. About 620 new review requests are being received weekly, but only about 200 per week are being completed. Some people are waiting up to nine months for a plan review decision.
The picture painted is of a system under stress. Planners and Local Area Coordinators have been prioritising new plans over reviews in order to meet bilateral targets. As has been previously noted, over the last two years (during the rapid implementation of the scheme), the quality of plans has often been very inconsistent, resulting in a higher-than-expected number of plans needing to be adjusted via a review.
