Victoria legislates single use plastics ban with exemptions for disability

The Victorian Government has passed regulations to ban plastic drinking straws, cutlery, and other single-use items.

The Disability Services Commissioner’s (DSC) 2019 Annual Report, including a Review of disability service provision to people who have died 2018–19, was tabled in the Victorian Parliament in October 2019.The review details the results of 38 completed investigations into the quality of care provided to people with disability who have died while receiving disability services in Victoria. The issues of concern are largely consistent with those raised in the DSC’s inaugural 2017-18 report. These include inadequate mealtime supports, a lack of support for people with complex communication needs, poor management of health conditions and poor record keeping.
