NDS gave evidence in the morning. The Royal Commission was interested to know the number of supported employment providers that have policies on supporting transition to open employment.

NDS was clear that everyone who has the capacity and wants to work in open employment should be able to do so, but that the data suggests they are not always successful.

Counsel asked about NDS's Supported Employment Industry Vision and how it intends to drive practical change within these services. The witness spoke about a number of initiatives, including a community of practice where providers can share good practice. The RC was interested to hear where supported employment supports were being provided outside more traditional settings; NDS will provide some examples on notice.
