DRC Report calls for culturally appropriate support for people with disability who have experienced violence

30/06/2023
A report by the Disability Royal Commission of Public Hearing 17 found that women and girls with disability are disproportionately affected by family, domestic and sexual violence. The report also found that, in reporting and responding to the assault of Niky, a woman with a disability who was sexually assaulted at an Anglicare respite centre, Anglicare failed to follow its own procedures and policies.Â
The report, âPublic Hearing 17: The Experience of Women and Girls with Disability, with a Particular Focus on Family, Domestic and Sexual Violence,â was commissioned by the Disability Royal Commission to explore the experiences of women and girls with disability who have experienced family, domestic and sexual violence. The report was conducted by the Australian Human Rights Commission in partnership with the National Disability Insurance Agency.Â
