DRC hears authorities' responses to violence and abuse of people with disability in public places
14/10/2022
The Royal Commission began the hearing with evidence from police representatives in South Australia, New South Wales, and Queensland. Witnesses were asked to explore existing and future opportunities to address trust deficits within the disability community, creating accessible reporting pathways, and the concern that people with disability are not perceived as credible witnesses. Â
The importance of networks of community-based organisations collaborating with people with disability and the role of dedicated disability liaison officers were discussed. Â
