NDS and Australian Business Lawyers and Advisors (ABLA) are pleased to advise members that a Good Practice Guide to the new classification structure in the SES Award is available [PDF].

The guide provides comprehensive instructions for employers on how to classify employees into one of the Grades in the SES Award’s new classification structure. Employers need to grade all their employees covered by the SES Award into the new classification structure by 30 June. The guide will be presented in our National Community of Practice on Friday 31 March.

The guide does not deal with the other element of the SES Award’s new wages structure (the SWS assessment process) or other changes to the award. Members can see our detailed summary of the FWC decision and other upcoming changes to the award in our news update of 22 December

The guide covers the following aspects of the new classification structure:

  • the grading process
  • the rationale for the new Grades A and B
  • the gateway requirements and their application
  • record keeping obligations for employers
  • employee right of review and dispute resolution processes
  • a glossary of key terms
  • a grading template.

Kyle Scott of ABLA will provide NDS members with a detailed presentation on the guide at our Community of Practice on Friday 31 March at 2:00pm (AEDT).

Members are invited to register for the Community of Practice and download the guide to familiarise themselves before the meeting.

NDS will also provide members with access to a comprehensive question and answer document after the Community of Practice, as well as the Guide and other resources on our disability employment webpage.
