Current complaint mechanisms for abuse fail people with disability
2/12/2022
The Disability Royal Commission has published a report on complaint mechanisms finding limitations in current mechanisms in cases of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability. Â
The report suggests designs for an accessible, inclusive and independent complaint mechanism for people with disability and recommends a national redress scheme.Â
According to the report, many of the causes of violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation of people with disability are systematic. Violence prevention will require structural change â changes to institutions, cultures, social practices, attitudes and law â to prevent abuse from being repeated.  Â
