29/09/2023
The Final Report of the Disability Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation of People with Disability was tabled in Parliament today (Friday 29 September).
In its final report, the Disability Royal Commission outlined an extensive plan towards a more inclusive society that supports the independence of people with disability and their right to live free from violence, abuse, neglect and exploitation.
Over four years, through 32 public hearings, 1785 private sessions, and more than 8000 submissions, the Commissioners heard extensive evidence of a system in crisis. NDS acknowledges the powerful contributions made by so many people, especially people with disability and their representative organisations. The instances of abuse, violence, exploitation and neglect unveiled throughout this inquiry are absolutely unacceptable.
