WA Sector Readiness Project: Preventing Adverse Events and Medication Incidents

For disability service providers in Western Australia
Medication incidents and adverse can have serious consequences and are often preventable. This one-hour session will discuss the importance of setting up your environment and systems to create a culture of safety every day.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Discover the two major types of errors and how these errors can negatively impact care
- Understand the barriers in reporting errors and the challenges faced by support workers when administering medications
- Understand the importance of identifying changes in health conditions and escalating care and to evaluate the incidents and work conditions to mitigate preventable errors

Participants will leave with a copy of the presentation and any resources mentioned throughout the workshop.

This workshop has been developed for operational managers, frontline leaders and quality managers from disability service providers in Western Australia.

This workshop will be facilitated by Ruth Littler. Ruth is a registered nurse and has worked in the public and private health care sectors as a school health nurse, patient advocate, coordinator of a registered training organisation, project manager, managing a residential aged care facility and healthcare consultancy.
