Round table: Quality Use of Medications and Medication Standards in the Disability Sector

People with disability face many challenges and barriers to safe medicine use from prescribing, administration and medication management. Disability services and staff play an essential role in ensuring the safe and quality use of medications when supporting people with disability.
The NDS Quality Use of Medications in the Disability Sector – A Round Table will bring together disability services providers and health professionals from across Australia for a forum to discuss medication safety and quality matters to inform a sector needs analysis.
The forum sessions will include:
- Presentation on the existing legislative frameworks and NDIS guidance for medication safety and management;
- Mapping current medication use and safety in disability services and the participant experience;
- Organisational and disability support worker challenges and gaps in implementing best practice medication safety and quality;
- Developing a needs analysis for the disability sector to improve medication safety and quality when supporting people with disabilities The Round Table is a key opportunity to contribute to a national needs analysis which will inform upcoming NDS resources, training and other activities for disability services.
The Round Table is part of the NDS Positive Health Outcomes Project supported by the Australian Government.
