Royal Commission hears proposed findings regarding provider hearing

The RC held an oral submissions day as part of Public Hearing 20, which focused on two group homes run by Life Without Barriers, and included alleged incidents of sexual assault, physical assault and neglect.No witnesses appeared; arguments were presented by Counsel Assisting as well as the organisation’s and government legal representatives.

In written submissions [pdf], Counsel Assisting proposed 81 adverse findings. Of the 76 proposed findings which were adverse to Life Without Barriers, the majority were accepted or accepted with suggested amendments. Roughly 20 were disputed, with arguments made in the organisation’s written submissions as well as orally during the day.The day’s discussion centred on a number of questions:
