Workshop 1:
Working with a NFP Board
The board has always been an important component in the governance of a disability service provider. However, increasingly the gap between volunteer board capacity and the needs of the organisation are stretched as the NDIS impacts operations. This practically orientated workshop will be presented by Dr David Gilchrist and focused on identifying practical strategies for enhancing the board’s contribution and ensuring its capacity to meet the priorities of the organisation in the short, medium- and long-term.

Financial Literacy for Non-financial Directors
The financial management of any organisation is paramount in terms of maintaining sustainability. In these times of constant change, especially in relation to the establishment of quasi-market funding regimes like the NDIS, financial management becomes crucial, but also more challenging in that organisations need to balance the temptation to meet financial needs and place mission behind this objective. Evelyn Hogg of BaxterLawley will provide a session focused on building the capacity of those volunteer directors with strengths in areas other than in finance to assist them in increasing their contribution to their organisation.

Workshop 4: Clinical Governance in an NDIS Environment The focus of voluntary boards has often been on areas related to business management rather than service governance in a clinical sense. This is because volunteer board members may not have the backgrounds necessary to prioritise clinical governance issues but also because a significant proportion of the governance framework for NFPs is based on commercial models. In this session, Dr David Gilchrist will examine the clinical risks and their governance processes. This session is suitable to board members and CEOs of disability service providers.
