Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Pathways Workshop
Making the decision to employ Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people is only the start of an exciting journey!
By building a more culturally responsive organisation, you will improve the attraction, recruitment and retention of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people into your workforce. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are much more likely to use and engage with culturally responsive services where they feel culturally secure.
In August 2019, NDS released the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Guide and Toolkit to assist disability service organisations to develop their capability to grow their Aboriginal workforce.
The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Pathways Workshop facilitated by NDS and Aboriginal Cultural Consultant, Mandy Gadsdon works through the guide and toolkit and assists participants through a self-assessment process that identifies their organisation’s strengths, areas for improvement and actions across two stages:
- Stage 1: Organisational Readiness: Foundations and Preparation of the Workplace
- Stage 2: Employment Strategies: Attraction, Recruitment and Retention
As part of the four hour workshop, we work with participants to draft a Continuous Improvement Plan for your organisation and provide ongoing personalised advice and implementation support thereafter.

NDIS registered providers in WA can now apply for an attendance subsidy for their employees to attend the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employment Pathways Workshop.
Funded by the WA Department of Communities, attendance subsidies are available until 30 June 2021. Subsidies cover $45 plus GST per hour for up to 10 participants.
