The ACT Disability Sector Forums hosted by National Disability Services are a unique opportunity for providers across Canberra to come together to discuss issues related to the implementation NDIS and other reforms to the disability sector.  The next forum will take place on Wednesday, 19th February from 9:30am–12:30pm at the Hellenic Club Woden (please note the change of day and start time from our previous forums).

With the ACT government elections due in October, 2020 will be a critical year for shaping how the interface between the NDIS and mainstream ACT services works for people with disability and the sector that supports them.

Our friends at the ACT Office for Disability and Rights & Inclusion Australia have been chipping away at the vexed issue of building disability housing options in Canberra and will be at the forum to discuss potential next steps.

We’ll also have the current head of the ACT Guardianship Unit along to discuss the role of Public Guardians, what they can and can’t do under ACT legislation, and how they can work better with the sector to ensure positive outcomes for people with disability under their guardianship.

We had a great discussion at the last sector forum, which guided the work of NDS in the ACT over the past few months – particularly our submission on what should be included for the disability community in the ACT Budget 2020/2021. The submission will be a fantastic starting point for our 2020 ACT election priorities as well!

As usual, we’ll have the latest updates on what you need to know about the NDIS and other issues affecting the disability sector in Canberra.  We hope you can be part of the discussions!
