We often hear that high-quality staff is a critical safeguard for people with disability. For this safeguard to be effective, staff not only need to be highly competent and values driven; they also need the right information to support continued good practice.

In times of significant change, it can be difficult to keep staff up to date and fully informed. The NDIS is providing a particular challenge due to the volume and complexity of information that is also driving changes to organisational structures and processes. Part of being compliant includes making sure staff are aware of their obligations and responsibilities to apply quality standards to their everyday work.

How can organisations use internal communications to support staff so they deliver on their duty of care to provide safe services?

Quality and Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility and this workshop support organisations to spread that message and other core requirements.

Workshop participants will be able to

• Identify opportunities for internal communication and knowledge sharing around quality and safeguarding
• Work through some scenarios, including quality and safeguarding issues, commonly facing the sector and how to communicate them to staff including policy changes and standards of practice.
• Learn how to develop an internal communications plan
• Gather ideas and insights from other organisations facing similar challenges

Alison Blake is the Managing Director of Strategic Support and Chair of the Quality and Safeguarding Community of Practice and has worked in the disability sector for 10 years in the areas of strategy, quality and engagement.

This workshop is for staff responsible for managing communications or employee engagement.
