Due to public health concerns surrounding COVID-19 the remaining dates of the Recognising Restrictive Practices Workshop in Queensland and Western Australian have been postponed.  We are reviewing options for new dates or virtual delivery.  We apologise for any inconvenience caused by our action to protect the health of our conference attendees. Registered delegates will receive a separate notice once we know more.

NDS is delivering a series of half-day workshops across Australia to promote a shared understanding of recognising, reducing and eliminating restrictive practices.

Key topics discussed at this workshop are:

  • Human Rights-based approaches and the impact of restrictive practices
  • The national approach to restrictive practices - with the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission's Directors of Behaviour Support
  • State and territory-based approaches to restrictive practice authorisation
  • Local examples of good practice
  • Available resources to support providers to meet national reporting requirements and state and territory-based authorisation processes
  • Case studies will be discussed within a facilitated workshop format, with topics including:
    • Environmental restraints
    • Duty of care vs. Dignity of risk
    • Restrictive practices for children
    • Understanding least restrictive practices
    • Prescription of chemical restraints

NDS recommends that service providers, disability support workers, supervisors, behaviour support practitioners and practice leaders attend, along with anyone else who may have an interest in the discussion.

Thanks to the funding from the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission's Support for NDIS Providers Grants, these workshops are complimentary.
