In the USA, Canada and other countries, people with more complex disability are supported into employment using a technique called Customised Employment. The first stage of Customised Employment is Discovery.

NDS is hosting a two-day specialised training program that will develop the knowledge, tools and resources necessary for your team to support people with significant disability who want to work.

The training will provide attendees with practical examples of maintaining successful workplace partnerships through using the informational interviewing techniques and case studies to assist you and your teams to think differently when it comes to employment supports for people with disability.

Attendees of this training will also receive comprehensive handouts and a USB of resources that include Customised Employment documentation, the Discovery process guide and videos showing the success of the Customised Employment approach both here in Australia and overseas.

Since 2016, we have been delivering customised training as part of the WA NDIS School to Work pilot. We have trained well over 800 disability organisation staff, NDIS planners, local area coordinators, employment people, school representatives, families and people with disabilities in Western Australia. Now the training is open to others outside of WA.

Who should attend?

  • Disability Employment Services (DES) managers and staff - to ensure they have the skills to create outcomes for this new client group of participants with more complex disability
  • NDIS providers wanting to support people with disability into work, including School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) providers
  • NDIS planners and NDIA staff
  • Australian Disability Enterprise providers wanting to develop pathways for their clients
  • Schools
  • Ticket to Work members
