The Commonwealth and the WA Governments announced a Bilateral Agreement for WA to transition to the NDIS on 12 December 2017.

From 1 July 2018, the NDIA will assume responsibility for the delivery of the NDIS in WA. The NDIS will continue to roll out on a geographic basis and will be fully rolled out across WA by July 2020.

The tight timeline for full roll out and the transfer of up to 8,711 WA NDIS participants to the NDIS presents Western Australia with unique challenges not experienced by other states.

Join us for this crucial update as Nicole O’Keefe, NDIA State Manager WA and Helen Nys from the WA Department of Communities outline the implementation and working arrangements required to fully roll-out the NDIS in Western Australia. The update will also outline details of the Transfer Plan of up to 8,711 WA NDIS participants into the NDIS for the period 1 April-31 December 2018.

Presenter: Nicole O’Keefe

Nicole O’Keefe has extensive state and Commonwealth public service experience in portfolios as diverse as aged care, public health, health system performance, mental health, and water.

Nicole joined the NDIA in early 2016 as the Branch Manager for Partners in the Community, rolling out partners to deliver local area coordination and early childhood early intervention services.

In 2017, Nicole led the Markers, Providers and Sector Development Division, and in early 2018, joined the WA office to support the Transition of WA into the NDIS.

Helen Nys

Helen Nys is Assistant Director General of Policy and Service Design at the Department of Communities. Helen has extensive experience in operational service delivery and policy design in both Australia and the United Kingdom.

For the past seven years, Helen has worked in Executive roles at the Disability Services Commission, where she was extensively involved in the negotiations regarding delivery of the NDIS. Prior to that, Helen worked in the United Kingdom in Children’s Services and Child Protection.

Helen has a particular interest in integrated service delivery and alignment to community-generated outcomes.
