COVID vaccine not to be mandated for disability support workers

Reads: COVID-19 News Update

National Cabinet today determined that COVID-19 vaccines would not be mandated for disability support workers at this time.

This is disappointing news given the recognised vulnerability of people with disability to the virus and the support that Minister Reynolds had earlier expressed.

In referencing medical expert panel advice, the Prime Minister said, "…while they are not at this point recommending mandating vaccines for disability care workers, they are strongly recommending it."

The PM went on to say that an incentive program was being developed for aged care workers, which would also extend to disability support workers.

NDS will continue to advocate that people with disability receive the same consideration through the pandemic as those in aged care.  We remain committed to working with Government to ensure a safe and effective vaccine rollout across the sector.
