Addressing Occupational Violence: Safe Systems of Work

This is a three-part deep dive interactive Community of Practice exploring safe systems of work in relation to minimising risks related to occupational violence. The aim is to learn from one another, discuss issues and share ideas. Each session will include a brief introduction to the topic with key issues from the sector highlighted and information from research and practice guides. Then there will be the opportunity to further discuss good practice and practice challenges.
Session One will highlight issues related to rostering, staffing ratios, and balancing workloads in a high stress environment.
Session Two will focus on considerations on how the physical environment may increase or decrease risks of occupational violence but also the impact of interactions between participants, staff, family, and others in the environment.
Session Three will explore impacts on psychological safety and ways to mitigate risk.
Who Should Attend?
NDS recommends that Quality and safeguards managers, Team Leaders, Rostering team leaders, Work health and safety leads, Health and safety representatives, SIL house managers and SDA providers within disability service organisations in Victoria are most suited to attend.
