Regional Meeting Background Providing a comprehensive network for membership communication and consultation has long been a priority for NDS NSW. In 1999, it was recognised that the creation of state-wide Regions was necessary to provide a mechanism for all services to meet and progress issues and initiatives. As a result, five Regions were formed by November 1999, with the Sydney Metropolitan Region resolving to utilise the subcommittee network and access to theNDS office. In 2004 it became clear that NDS needed to refine these regions further and so created twelve new regions generally in line with DADHC's regional structure. In December 2005, NDS realigned the Sydney metropolitan regional meetings to reflect changes in the DADHC structure with the merger of Met South West and South East into one region "Metro South"; and similarly, Met West and North merged to become "Metro North". The current Regional meetings are: NDS NSW Regional meetings are held four times a year. All disability service organisations are invited to attend. Government representatives and guest speakers also attend meetings regularly. Each region has a Chairperson, Deputy Chairperson and Minute Taker elected annually from NDS members in the regional area. NDS NSW provides support to each region. Agendas and other information are distributed via the Secretariat, financial support is provided for meetings and other expenses. NDS NSW staff attend the regional meetings to provide updates and to build stronger links between the sector and NDS NSW. The NDS NSW regional network offers the opportunity for all services in NSW to share a common "industry voice". The ongoing growth of the regional meetings since 2004 reflects the disability sector's desire to work together and provides a formal network to ensure that the issues faced by disability service providers are addressed. . |
