Inaugural meeting of the Industry Development Fund Implementation Group held

3 September 2010

In 2009, the establishment of a Industry Development Fund was announced by the then Minister for Disability Services, Paul Lynch, to be jointly administered by NDS and Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC) for the purpose of building the capacity and capability of the disability services sector in NSW.

On 30 June this year, the Directions for Industry Development Final Report  [Word 637KB] was released following extensive consultation with stakeholders including service providers, advocates, peak bodies and policy makers. This Report outlines a vision and strategies for a more innovative, robust, responsive, efficient and integrated disability services sector in NSW.

To advise the IDF Governance Board on the implementation of strategies to be resourced by the Industry Development Fund, an Industry Development Fund Implementation Group (IDF IG) has been established comprising of key representatives from across the sector. Chaired by Mr Tony Lund, a former senior executive with a wealth of experience in the sector, the inaugural meeting of the IDF IG was recently held. The role of Deputy Chairperson will be jointly filled by Jim Moore, Chief Executive, ADHC and Patrick Maher, Chief Operating Officer, NDS.

Chosen on the basis of their individual expertise and experience, the IDF IG comprises of the following sector representatives from across NSW:

  • Lauren Murray, Deputy Director General, Service Development and Planning, ADHC
  • Samantha Taylor, Executive Director, Sector Development, ADHC
  • Marie New, Hunter Regional Director, ADHC
  • Eugene McGarrell, Metro North Deputy Regional Director, ADHC
  • Valerie Appleby, Northern Deputy Regional Director, ADHC
  • Alison Crisp, Executive Director, Business Improvement, ADHC
  • Anne Marie Dwyer, Executive Director, Prevention & Pathways, ADHC
  • Gordon Duff, State Manager, Policy and Projects, NDS
  • Emily Caska, State Policy Coordinator, NDS
  • Tim Walton, NDS NSW State Committee Chair, AFFORD
  • Christine Regan, Senior Policy Officer, NCOSS
  • Dougie Herd, Executive Officer, NSW Disability Council
  • Steve Jaques, Chief Executive Officer, Kurrajong Waratah
  • John Faithfull, Chief Executive Officer, ACES Inc
  • Deborah Hoffman, General Manager, Strategy, Research & Planning, The Spastic Centre
  • Robin Way, Chief Executive Officer, Community Connections
  • Pauline Stanley, Chief Executive Officer, Sylvanvale Foundation
  • Margaret Bowen, Chief Executive Officer, The Disability Trust
  • Rob Dawson, Director Client Services, Samaritan Foundation

During the opening discussions of the IDF IG, it was agreed that supporting the diversity within the sector be communicated to acknowledge that all organisations, regardless of size, play a key role in the delivery of quality services for people with disability, their families and carers in NSW. The composition of members of the IDF IG deliberately reflects the valued status of such diversity.

In response to the considerable interest that the Directions for Industry Development Final Report has generated, a dedicated email address has been created as a repository for ideas and feedback pertaining to the implementation of the actions listed in the report. All interested stakeholders are encouraged to contribute their ideas to:  IDFIG@nds.org.au.

As this is a repository of information only, no response will be generated. Emails to this address should clearly identify the relevant action item or area of focus from the Directions for Industry Development Final Report [Word 637KB] that the idea or feedback refers to as well as contact details should we seek to contact you in the future. IDF Executive Officer, Berice King, will refer to this repository on a weekly basis with suggestions forwarded to IDF IG as appropriate.

The IDF IG will meet bi-monthly and an NDS News Update will be issued following each meeting. This forms part of the communication strategy that is currently being developed.
