Time to dot your ‘i’s and cross your TEAs

28 September 2012

Registrations to host a DisabiliTEA in support of the Every Australian Counts campaign for a National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) close this weekend. Already more than 1500 events have been registered around Australia.

The DisabiliTEA will occur on Friday 26 October. To host an event, register online. You will then be sent a registration pack including posters, postcards, invitations and fact sheets for you to use at your event.

The DisabiliTEA is critical to ensuring that we continue to build community support for the NDIS and keep up the pressure on our politicians to legislate and fully fund the scheme.

While our aims are serious, we encourage you to make your event as engaging as possible. One event already organised for this year's DisabiliTEA brings together the Northern Territory Bikers from Patriots Australia in partnership with NDS NT who will be riding through Darwin city centre before hosting a sausage sizzle, complete with cups of tea, on the Nightcliff foreshore.

We also encourage disability organisations to be ambitious with their events. In 2011, a group of NDS Members based in the Illawarra put in an enormous effort when they came together to host a united DisabiliTEA at Kembla Grange Race Course that was attended by more than 1000 people.

We encourage you to register your event today and start planning your DisabiliTEA.

If your organisation is hosting a creative DisabiliTEA, NDS would love to hear from you. Please contact Katherine McLellan, Communications Officer, via email; Katherine.McLellan@nds.org.au, or phone; 02 9256 3168.
