High profile speakers confirmed for 2012 Employment Forum

6 August 2012

NDS is pleased to announce that the Minister for Families, Community Services, Indigenous Affairs and Disability Reform, Jenny Macklin, will deliver the opening speech at the 2012 Employment Forum.  Minister Macklin's speech will be extremely timely given the recent announcement of the NDIS launch sites and the importance of the NDIS for the future of employment support services.

Minister for Employment Participation, Kate Ellis, will also speak on the first morning of the forum. She will examine the government's agenda for disability employment services including the new model for provision of employment services in remote areas and the review of the performance framework for the Disability Employment Services program.

Also appearing at the Forum is Peter Brinckerhoff, a renowned international expert in the management of not-for-profit organisations. Peter will run a series of sessions throughout Day 2 of the Forum on the theme of 'Business Development for Disability Organisations'. These workshops will cover topics including:

  • Starting or expanding a business - the factors to consider
  • How this process differs for not-for-profit disability organisations
  • Developing an appropriate business plan
  • Marketing
  • Analysing your competition

Peter is the author of numerous books on the management and marketing of not-for-profit organisations and his workshops are highly acclaimed. Three of his books, have been awarded the Terry McAdam Award for "The Best New Nonprofit Book"; the only author to win multiple times.

Early bird registrations close on 16 August 2012.  Demand for accommodation and flights is expected to be very high, so delegates are advised to register and make travel arrangements as soon as possible.
