ADDC & ANU International Conference
'Implementing disability-inclusive development:
reviewing progress, planning the future'
An international conference and action planning roundtables
15 - 17 September 2010, Convention Centre, Darwin
This second ADDC international conference on disability and development will explore the progress being made in implementing disability inclusive development and achievements in providing equal access to development for people with disability. Participants will review how the disability conventions, country strategies and plans are being implemented and what practical action is being undertaken at household, community, country and regional levels to empower those with a disability. The mechanisms and relationships that lead to empowerment and equal access will be identified. The conference will review the role of partnerships and linkages between national and international NGOs, DPOs and governments and identify key factors that make partnerships effective. It will consider how best Australian organizations can support regional partners.
You will have a valuable opportunity to:
- review the latest research on disability and development and discuss research needs
- help identify best practice and the key factors that promote success
- be involved in establishing clear principles for involvement
- discuss the way forward with Pacific and Asian country partners
- establish new and effective networks
The conference will bring together internationally recognized disability and development activists, researchers and organizers, disability and development practitioners from Pacific and Asian countries and international representatives of disabled peoples organizations and networks.
