Tasmanian Industrial Commission ratifies Disability Services Industrial Agreement

 

NDS Tasmania welcomes the decision of the Tasmanian Industrial Commission to ratify the Disability Services Industrial Agreement for improved wages and conditions for Disability Support Workers in the non-government sector.

 

The Agreement has been developed by NDS over many months and has involved extensive negotiations with the Treasurer Michael Aird, Health Minister, Lara Giddings, the Health and Community Services Union and Tasmanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Click here to read more...

NDS welcomes recognition of past treatment of children

 

Health and Human Services Minister, Lara Giddings, has announced that she will work on mechanisms to recognise the experiences of children with disabilities who lived at the New Norfolk mental institution between 1960 and 1999. NDS Tasmania welcomes this announcement.

Bill Shorten makes his second visit to the state

 

NDS Tasmanian members had two opportunities this week to meet Bill Shorten, Parliamentary Secretary for Disabilities, and discuss the future of disability policy in Australia.

 

In Hobart NDS hosted a meeting with Mr Shorten and Local Member Julie Collins and in Launceston NDS Member St Michaels hosted the Enabling Forum with Bill Shorten. Click here to read more...
